August 10
Today we leave by way of a short 20" ferry which has several 1000 piece puzzles laid out partially completed to keep us amused. From there we drive over Deception Bridge between Fidalgo Island and Whidbey Island. Before 1935, a small ferry, Deception Pass, was owned and operated by the first female ferry captain in the state of Washington.

We continue on up to Kamloops, a town of around 80,000.
There is gorgeous scenery on our way up to Valemont.
We check into our B&B where our hosts suggest we go to the Swift Creek Salmon Spawning area. We see huge female salmon slapping the water as they prepare the creek bottom to receive their approximately 1,000 eggs, deposited 20-30 at a time. These Chinook salmon that spawn here lay up to 2,000,000 eggs; only 1000 will return in 4-5 years to spawn in the same creek.
